
Gyro Sandwich (Greek-Style Pita Sandwich)
The GYRO (pronounced yee-ro) SANDWICH is a Greek-style pita sandwich made with approximately 3.2 ounces of gyro meat (a combination of lamb and beef), layered in the pita bread with slices of onion and tomato and served with approximately 1 ounce of a cucumber/sour cream/yogurt dressing. The meat can also be purchased in gourmet delis for the “dine-at-home” market. The meat is available in loaves or cones in precooked or uncooked forms. The loaves are roasted in any type oven. The cone-shaped product is cooked on a vertical rotisserie and the meat sliced from the cone as required for sandwich preparation.
